Concrete Coatings Inc. introduced MMA to the Las Vegas market in 2002 (although it's been in use in the European marketplace since the 60s) when we installed over 80 thousand square feet at the Bellagio pool deck. It's 100% acrylic with an integral quartz blend that creates a great decorative concrete coating solution because it's extremely durable, slip resistant (the finish is similar to a heavy grit sandpaper), very easy to clean, the sealer resists most chemicals, and it's cooler than concrete.

MMA's finished appearance is similar to most broadcasted quartz epoxy systems ... but chemically, it's completely different than epoxy. Epoxies will amber in sunlight (they're not UV resistant) -- thus, epoxies are generally not suitable for outdoor applications. MMA, on the other hand, is UV resistant, and it will not amber in the sunlight.

Another difference between epoxy and MMA is the set up time. MMA sets up very quickly. Typically, the pot life is 10 minutes, and once an area has been coated it is completely cured and ready for traffic in about an hour (epoxies generally take several hours ... and sometimes even days to set up). Thus, MMA is effectively able to minimize down time during remodel projects without sacrificing quality. Finally, unlike most decorative concrete coatings, MMA can be applied in freezing, or even sub-zero weather -- as long as the concrete is dry and completly cured.
